Parliament through the Office of the Clerk of Parliament has issued a 72 hour ultimatum to both current and former Members of Parliament starting yesterday Monday 11th December, 2023, to surrender their old vehicular number plates to the Office of the Clerk of Parliament or face serious consequences including police arrest.
The notice states thus, “it has been brought to the notice of the Clerk of Parliament that some persons still affixed on their vehicles the old number plates for MPs which are no longer in use.”
It is reported that the Clerk of Parliament had earlier announced for parliamentarians who are still using the old number plates to surrender them.
The office said the lawmakers are only authorized to use the current number plates provided for them, insisting that those who fail to surrender their old number plates will have their names published for the attention of the Inspector General of Police.
In view of the above, the Inspector General of Police and the Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority (SLRSA) have been directed to effect arrest and prosecute persons who are still using the old vehicular number plates for MPs.
The notice maintained that, “Hon Members of Parliament are therefore beseeched to adhere, given the efficacies of this announcement.”
