The strong main opposition All People’s Congress party (APC) has suffered a lot of setbacks just after the 2018 general elections when the nation witness the peaceful and smooth transition of power.

The members and supporters of the APC have been intimidated and harassed by officials of the current government. Former Ministers and senior stakeholders of the party have been addressed as “thieves” by President Julius Maada Bio. APCians have been locked up in cells for criticizing the government while they are tortured and incarcerated at the Pademba Road prisons. APCians have been arrested at various media houses for speaking the gospel truth and calling things by their names.

The sitting regime have attacked the stronghold of the APC by killing its members and supporters ranging from the killing at Tonko Limba, killing at Mile 91, Tombo, Makeni, Lunsar and Lumley killings. The deadly Pademba Road massacre which until now there have been no detailed report on what happened that led to the massacre of innocent human lives.

The unconstitutional removal of ten APC MPs for SLPP judicial MPs and forcefully imposing the Speaker of Parliament which is a gross violation of the country’s 1991 Constitution.

APC Members of Parliament were teargas at their party headquarters on Brookfields which is a violation of human and people’s rights by the President Bio’s led SLPP.

The last respect of the citizens democratic rights which is to vote for their selected MPs and Councilors have now been tampered with by the government. Because how can one vote for a political party without knowing the candidate and this has raised consciousness among the people that the government is not a representative of the people and are left with no better option than voting them out of governance.

Democracy is believe to be the government of the people, by the people and for the people but the complete opposite of Democracy is what is prevailing in Sierra Leone with our democratic institutions and values being tampered with. SLPP has dumped democracy in the gutters because the people no longer have the democratic rights to vote for their chosen representatives who will advocate for them on what happened in their constituencies and wards.

In a level and fair democratic dispensation the citizens agree to disagree but the decision is no longer coming from the people which means that the principles of Democracy has ruined and now left crying.

The SLPP has manifested that they are not good and fit for purpose and are not democratic, do not believe in the principles of good governance with gross violation and disrespect of human and people’s rights.

This is neither about APC nor SLPP but removing a government that is not representing the people because they have infringed on the peoples’ rights to participate into democracy in Sierra Leone.

This government has manipulated the peoples’ right and does not suit the convenience of Democracy.
