The 2nd edition of the National Open Water Swimming Contest commenced last Saturday, at the National Tourist Board View, Lumley Beach.
The event aims to promote athletic endurance, physical wellbeing, and environmental sustainability through physical, mental and ocean health and awareness.
The championships feature swimmers competing in 1KM, 3KM, and 5KM open water races, showcasing athletic endurance while promoting a deeper commitment to physical wellbeing and environmental sustainability.
The event will also include beach clean-up campaigns, mental health awareness sessions, and interactive fitness activities to engage the wider public. Sierra Leone’s Aquatics hopes to draw a diverse and enthusiastic audience in collaboration with local communities, youth organizations, and key stakeholders.
