The National Advisory Committee (NAC) of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party at a meeting held on Friday 30th June, 2023 at the party’s headquarters resolved not to participate at all levels of governance with the ruling SLPP government led by President Julius Maada Bio.
This resolution was made public on July 5, 2023 following the appendage of signatures by various APC candidates who have been duly elected to serve in governance after the declaration of results by ECSL.
However, among the 54 duly elected Members of Parliament to represent the party in the next parliament, 53 appended their signatures whilst only Mohamed Bangura abstained.
The mounting question doing the rounds among grassroots and the general membership of APC is why Mohamed Bangura refused to append his signature while others did, as they resolved not to work with the ruling SLPP government.
On Sunday 25 June, 2023 in a live video broadcast, the presidential candidate of APC Dr. Samura Kamara categorically stated that he will not accept any skewed results manufactured by ESCL following wide range of irregularities discovered during polling day by National Elections Watch (NEW) and other local observers alongside international observes like EU, US and Carter Foundation that was highlighted in their reports.
Following the announcement of the final presidential results by the Chief Electoral Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Mr. Mohamed K. Konneh on June 27, 2023 that eventually declared incumbent President Julius Maada Bio as winner for a second term of office; Dr. Samura Kamara out rightly refused to accept the results and also couldn’t congratulate President Bio on his victory.
APC released two separate statements, after the announcement of results that as a party they will not corporate with the SLPP government and also demand for a re-run of the elections in six month to be conducted by an independent body and the immediate resignations of several high profile personalities.
