Leone Stars of Sierra Leone suffered a 3-2 defeat against Zambia in the AFCON Cup Qualifiers held on September 10, 2024, at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia.
The match was filled with deep excitement as both teams battled hard to get a crucial win.
Zambia opened the scoring line early, with Kennedy Musonda finding the back of the net, giving the home side a 1-0 lead.
Sierra Leone speedily replied as Augustus Kargbo achieved an equalizer, bringing the score to 1-1 before the 45 minutes of play. In the second half, Zambia once again took the lead through Kampamba, making it a 2-1.
Leone Stars showed their willpower as Hindolo Mustapha equalized once more, leveling the match at 2-2.
The players remained anxious as both teams pushed for a winner, but it was Zambia who capitalized in the 85th minute.
A decisive goal from Zambia sealed a 3-2 victory, leaving the Leone Stars defeated despite their efforts.
Sierra Leone will now re-group as they prepare for their remaining AFCON Qualifier matches, and are determined to bounce back and keep their hopes of qualifying.
In his reaction during a press briefing and the encounter, Coach Amidu Karim sadly expressed disappointment and casting blames on assistance referees and the march commissioners.
Leone Stars are hoping to improve on their lapses and weaknesses in future.
