As the FIFA artificial turf goal project work has been intensified which is purely being implemented by the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA).
The Lungi Central Field in Lungi has been left out though it was part of the proposed artificial six (6) fields project of the previous administration of SLFA.
Speaking to football administrators and soccer fans in Lungi, they told Africa24 sport desk that they are highly dismayed with the sad development regarding the refusal of SLFA to build an artificial filed in Kaffu Bullom, Lungi.
However, all four sites of the artificial turfs work have commenced in the country. They are as follow: SLFA Academy at Kingtom in Freetown, Approved School Playing Field at Brima Lane, Port Loko Town Field, and Bo Coronation Field being constructed by the Netherlands based contractors working for Edel Grass Company.
The contractors are keen to meet the deadline set to complete all artificial turfs by June 2024.
Meanwhile, seven containers fully loaded with working equipment have landed at the Port Loko site and more are expected to arrive in a few days at the Queen Elizabeth 11 Quay for delivery at the other sites.
The construction of these standard artificial turfs with playing facilities in the country will invariably be a massive boost in adding to the infrastructural development of the nation’s football drive.
Also part of these projects is to give a facelift and standardize the Koidu Town field and Kenema Town field with the installations of floodlights and a perimeter fence.
The said projects, upon completion, will see a full package of a state -of-the art artificial turf, floodlight, perimeter fence, 100KVA generator, and 100-seater pavilion at the SLFA Academy Field, Approved School Field, Port Loko Town Field, and Bo Coronation Field.
Kono artificial turf pitch will be renovated with a perimeter fence and floodlights while the Kenema Town Field, which is already fenced, will be upgraded with standard floodlights.
