What is currently unfolding in the Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP ) has shown that the two traditional political democracies in Sierra Leone have become fragile, and the mood seems as if a febrile Sierra Leone is in waiting.
The negligence of the grassroots supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party is the absolute hollowing in the SLPP Party with self-serving bureaucracy that operates with impunity.
A party with internal discontents, factional divide, and dysfunctional ineptitude cannot escape the revenge and wrath of the electorate at the 2028 general election. The grassroots supporters of the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party are full of resentment, grudges and are waiting for their chance to avenge.
The saving grace for the grassroots supporters that they are clinging on to is the coming general election, where they will show their resistance, which has been bogged down by marginalisation.
Who is to be blamed? It’s nobody’s fault, but the truth is the grassroots are irrelevant with hostile attention from the party hierarchy. The president Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio is under fire by the grassroots supporters, and he appears remorseful, apologetic and confused about what to do and searching for a sense of mission and direction.
President Bio should be awake and reinvigorate his faltering party. This should be his sparkling prospectus to be delivered with sparkling rhetoric of explicit desire for the party’s Problem. The discontent of the grassroots supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP ) should be a warning danger with a clear sense of direction in spectacular fashion.
The Current SLPP crisis is the crisis of focus and direction. What does the SLPP really stand for? This is a question for President Bio as his model of Unity in the Party seems to be a shadow of its former self with an obvious ideological void of factional political blocks. It is time for the SLPP to comfort the baffling factional discontent, and it is a siren call for the Paopanism and JMBism.
A dangerous political bloc is opening now in the SLPP that is not good for the Party and as well as the Country. According to Karl Marx,” History appears first as a tragedy, and then as a farce”. If President Bio fails to unify the SLPP Party, something very different will happen in Sierra Leone politics if the leadership piously averts its attention from the bleeding, likely.
It is high time to look at reality and think about unifying the Party with a plausible axiom of ” One People, One Country”. The fractional blocs in the Party are destroying the party, and it is a drama that has been hard to tear our attention away from, but within the SLPP Party itself, there is a far bigger story that continues to unfold.
The Current SLPP Party is facing a massive strategic problem towards its grassroots supporters. The longer they show a lack of interest, the weaker their bargaining chip. At the moment there is a moral outrage within the grassroots supporters as the Party is succumbing to factional blocks and bureaucratic inertia that have defined the crusade in the Party.
The relationship between the grassroots supporters and the party hierarchy is totally broken, and it reflects a political culture of disproportionate factional dominance which is emblematic of a wider problem in the SLPP.
Can the SLPP be insurgent once more? This is the big question on which the SLPP’s fate will depend upon as an entrenched problem is now becoming an acute crisis in the Party, and now symbolises a more fundamental threat to the peace in the SLPP Party.
The SLPP should urgently learn from their mistakes and try to rectify things with a compelling vision before 2028 if otherwise, it will inevitably lose its support base with the grassroots. At the moment, the party is undergoing a series of ill-defined squabbles as the battle of control rages on with ugliness and hypocrisy.
The Silence and inaction of the grassroots supporters of the SLPP are choices that perpetuate revenge and suffering. The leadership of the SLPP should now show responsibility over complicity and political convenience. What the SLPP Party is currently undergoing symbolises the disunity and disarray the party is experiencing due to the factional blocks which the leadership is impotent to address.
The factional blocks in the SLPP have left the party in a divided, mumbling mood, dazed and directionless. It is a concern disturbingly relevant to all patriotic supporters and to the contemporary reality of our times. If the party can now improve the relationship with the grassroots supporters, and strengthen the peace and Unity within the Party, and avoid the hard graft of politics in the SLPP, then hope will be restored.
Why the Paopanism and JMBism? Where is the ” One Country, One People”? With the fractional formation, the Party’s strategic autonomy has been exposed and is irrelevant.
This is the time for the patriotic Supporters of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP ) to reflect on their past political history and not let history repeat itself.
It’s high time for the party hierarchy to make a shrewd move to unify the party members and to accommodate political tolerance rather than engaging in factional blocks to create violent storms.
!! LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE 🇸🇱
