A case involving cyber stalking and cyber bullying resumed in court, with the accused Musa Kamara standing trial for allegedly sending threatening and abusive messages to the complainant.
The second prosecution witness, Detective Police Constable (DPC) 17036 Joseph Musa, told the court that he is attached to the Cyber Crime Unit at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters and resides at No. 4 Nicole Drive, New York, Yams Farm.
DPC Musa stated that he recognized both the complainant, Edward Sesay, and the accused. He recalled that on Saturday, 3rd December 2023, while on duty at the Cyber Crime Unit, the complainant reported that he had received threatening and abusive audio and text messages from the accused via his Qcell number, 031214660, around 1:00 p.m.
According to the witness, on the following day, 4th December 2023, he and Inspector Paul Aloysious obtained a formal statement from Mr. Sesay. The complainant submitted screenshots and audio recordings of the messages, stored on a pen drive, which were then forwarded to Inspector Mohamed Jusu at the Cyber Lab for analysis.
DPC Musa continued that on 25th January 2024, the accused was called in for further investigation. A voluntary caution statement was obtained from the accused by both himself and Inspector Paul. He said the interview was conducted in Krio and recorded in English. He said statement was read back in Krio, and the accused confirmed its accuracy by affixing his right-hand thumbprint. Both officers signed the document.
He concluded that on 13th March 2024, a charge statement for the offence of cyber bullying was again taken under caution. The procedure was repeated with the statement read in Krio, confirmed by the accused, and signed by both the officers and the accused.
The charge statement was produced and marked as exhibit D1-3 in court.
During cross-examination, the accused asked the witness whether the complainant presented the audio evidence at the time of reporting. DPC Musa responded in the affirmative but stated he could not recall the phone brand used to record the audio, only that it was transferred to a memory stick.
The matter was adjourned to 4th June 2025 for further hearing.
