MPs say the leadership in Parliament is playing a pivotal role in shaping the laws while advancing national development to safeguarding the interests of citizens in the country.

Hon. Bashiru Silikie, the Deputy Leader of Government Business in the Sierra Leone Parliament and representative of Bo District, says parliament leadership is meant to offer a dedicated service and impactful contributions to society. The leadership influence ranges on several critical areas. One aspect is on facilitating the Enactment of Bills.

The MP says his negotiation skills and abilities to manage parliamentary dynamics have been critical in ensuring that proposed laws are debated comprehensively and passed well in Parliament.

The leadership has helped in the areas of Ratification of Grants and Loans passed by the House for the development of the State.

Hon. Silikie has been deeply involved in ensuring the ratification of grants and loans that support Sierra Leone’s development goals, more particularly President Bio’s Big Five Changers. Understanding the importance of international financial aid and partnerships, he meticulously examines the terms of agreements to ensure they are in the country’s best interest.

By effectively rallying support within Parliament, Hon. Silikie ensures that critical matters are secured without compromising national sovereignty and the principle of State governance.

In his role as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee on Works and Public Assets, the energetic young leader of Parliament demonstrated robust Parliamentary Oversight functions by overseeing the work of SLRA and other agencies working with the maintenance of roads around the country.

In his Leadership at the Pan-African Parliament, as the delegation leader from Sierra Leone to the Pan-African Parliament, Hon. Silikie has projected Sierra Leone’s interests on the continental stage. His diplomatic skills and in-depth understanding of African parliamentary collaboration enable him to advocate for policies that resonate with Sierra Leone’s development agenda.
