Stakeholders of Moyamba district have informed this medium that there are lots of rotten fish at the largest fish habour in Kargboro Chiefdom.
They said the fish habour is seriously under threat due to the deplorable road conditions in Moyamba town and the whole of Kargboro Chiefdom which links the fish harbour complex.
One of the community stakeholders in Moyamba district, Mr Sambo Kamanda, who was furious about the condition of the road, said two companies have been awarded the contract to rehabilitate the road but nothing had been done on the road, he said.
Mr Kamanda said the worst of all, the road contract has been awarded to a new company called P-7 but nothing has been done to fix the road.
Another indigene, Musa Massaqoui revealed that the ‘bad road’ had prevented them from transporting their farm produce to the urban community.
“We are not happy with the manner in which we are treated by the Bio regime especially with regards the growing deplorable conditions of our roads.”
During the rainy season every year, we cannot access the bigger towns. Our standard of living is depreciating day by day. We are expecting our brothers who are in higher authorities to turn down their attention to help us here in Kargboro Cheifdom,” Massaquoi said.
He said their government [ SLPP] has completely forgotten about them as things are not going perfect for them in their communities, adding that Moyamba district is in abject poverty.
“We voted them to have salvation but today we are engulfed with darkness and nothing is going as perfect in Moyamba district. We are praying for the best in the future but our hopes are in the balance,” he stressed.
Salamatu Kamara of Yogborfore village which is in the same chiefdom told our journalist that the government constructed a fish harbour at Kargboro chiefdom but they had been subjected to a public ridicule because of the terrible road condition.
“We are very unhappy over the current state quo and our living is nothing good to write home about. No vehicles coming to our community to take our products to the markets areas. We are worried about our future and our children’s generation,” Kamara asserted.
Many expressed their dissatisfactions over the poor condition of their road linking the habour.
Stakeholders have called on the government especially President Julius Maada Bio to swiftly work towards addressing their predicament in Moyamba district.
