The Wise Bird has visited the Provincial headquarters, district headquarters, chiefdom down to the sections, and on the length and breadth of the country by way of assessing how people behave in society.
The most respected bird noticed that indiscipline has taken a center stage in society.
The rate at which school going children talk to their elders or even respond to questions is beyond imagination. Today, students have little or no respect for their teachers.
In most cases, school going children and their teachers meet in pubs, clubs and other entertainment places to enjoy themselves. You tell me where the respect comes from as they are putting on this behavior?
In the 70s, 80s and up to the 90s when Bra Parrot and the Eagle were boys, for a teacher and a student to meet on the street at night hours is not possible.
That could be the worst of a crime for a student to do so in those days. But today that respect had died down.
In those days, children do not sit with elders or even talk with them. That will only happen when he/she is called upon to do something.
Lawlessness and indiscipline started long before the advent of the Sierra Leone People’s party (SLPP).
At meetings today, children are the first to rush for a sitting place before their elders.
It goes on even in public transportation; the young would never reserve sittings for the elderly passengers.
In those days young boys/girls would get-up from a seat for elders to sit. But not today that’s not happening in public places.
The bird can say without hesitation that today school going children would even dare or have the guy to introduce their boyfriends/girlfriends to their parents without due respect to their mothers and fathers.
In front of parents today children could throw abusive languages at each other, children dictates their going to school or not, parents could challenge teachers to make a case against them when a child is allegedly beaten in front of other school authorities.
Make no mistake, discipline and respect are totally lacking in society, at home, in schools, in places of warship and even at workplaces today.
Traffic police officers are seen collecting booking fees from drivers on a daily basis, drivers are with their half-way transportation, kekehs, okadas increase prices at will without due respect of the law, traders sell as they like.
Indiscipline has taken over every sector of our society.
The bird has been watching the position of the Government on enforcing discipline in the country. Can we ask readers if government itself discipline?
