The APC 2023 Flagbearer and Presidential candidate, Dr Samura Kamara heightened calls for post-electoral fairness.
On his New Year’s message, he waded into what he perceived as the fraudulent 2023 elections meted on his party.
He alleged such was orchestrated by the SLPP and abetted by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) of which he dubbed as a State Coup, in such regard.
Most crucially, Dr. Samura Kamara reminded the international community of their lethargy and slow approach on having talks on the June 24 elections results at the centre of the tripartite engagement.
He said it would have thoroughly squeezed the Chair of the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) Mohamed K. Konneh to have produced the results by taking a prompt action.
These three facts highlighted the key points of Dr Samura Kamara’s speech heralded on New Year’s day of 2025.
As millions of Sierra Leoneans both home and abroad were supposedly listening to Dr Samura Kamara, the spirits of the people might have uplifted beyond optimism as they could clearly see electoral justice coming to fruition, and they believe it is just a matter of time for that to happen.
On this speech, electorates whose priceless votes were allegedly stolen in what Dr Samura referred to as broad daylight were particularly struck with the olive branch extended again by Dr Samura Kamara to those he called traitors in the APC executives and members of the National Advisory Council (NAC) to come back home.
This is not the first time Dr Samura had extended his hand of unity to these APC politicians.
The speech is considered visionary speech as it is backed with facts and figures and is centred around peace, unity, justice and progress.
Dr Samura Kamara spoke to the nation and to the global partners like a true politician who is ready and equipped with all the ammunition to take the suffering people of Sierra Leone from the present predicaments to the Promised Land, according to political observers.
In recent years, Sierra Leone has grappled with a worrisome threatening challenge on its democratic integrity such as allegations of election irregularities and a troubling lack of transparency in elections results tabulation.
These claims have reverberated within the nation and raised concerns among international election observers, including the United Kingdom and the United States.
The ensuing doubts have cast a shadow of uncertainty over the legitimacy of President Maada Bio’s government.
Amidst this pressing issue, the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) has emerged as a key player who is vociferously advocating for a rerun of the multi-tier elections while passionately urging for a resistance against what they perceive as an illegitimate administration led by President Bio.
As the nation grapples with these profound concerns, the spotlight now firmly rests on Sierra Leone’s political stability.
These demands from the APC and their refusal to engage in any form of governance have taken centre stage as Commonwealth negotiations loom.
The role of the Commonwealth in this precarious situation cannot be overstated. They must meticulously evaluate the claims and evidence presented by both sides while unwaveringly upholding their commitment to democratic principles and the rule of law, a political analyst has admitted.
The international community’s stance on Sierra Leone’s political future will undeniably influence the broader stability of the West African region.
