The 40-years-old veteran Sierra Leonean international, Kei Kamara has rejoined the men’s national squad Leone Stars for their upcoming African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Chad and Zambia.
Nearly, three years after announcing his retirement from international football, Kei is returning back to home national football.
He is joining the next squad to African country, Chad.
Kamara, who currently plays for Major League Soccer (MLS) in America, is called by Coach Amidu Karim’s squad as Leone Stars prepare for pivotal double games this month.
Leone Stars are currently third in Group G and they must secure victories in both upcoming fixtures to keep their hopes of qualifying.
Kamara’s return is expected to provide a major boost to the team’s attacking options as they face two crucial challenges in their bid to qualify for next year’s tournament.
Kamara, who has been a key figure for Sierra Leone’s national team, over the years, last played for the national team in March 2021.
His decision to come out of retirement underscores his commitment to the national cause and his desire to help the team reach its next stage in major qualifying tournament.
The matches against Chad and Zambia are set to be decisive, and Kamara’s wealth of experience will be invaluable as Leone Stars strive to achieve a place in AFCON 2025, Morocco.
