Los Angeles football club (LAFC) have bolstered their roster by signing up the forward Kei Kamara.
His new contract takes him through 2024 season with an option for 2025.
The 17-year Major League Soccer (MLS) veteran is bringing a wealth of experience and goal-scoring prowess to the team having played for a record 11 different MLS clubs.
Kamara, aged 39, boasts of an impressive career statistics sheet with 418 regular-season matches under his belt, including 328 starts and with over 30,000 minutes on the field.
His 144 goals place him third on the all-time MLS goal-scoring list, making him the highest-scoring active player in the league and one of just 11 players to have netted 100 goals.
LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington expressed confidence in Kamara’s ability to enhance the team’s attacking prowess, citing his track record as one of the greatest goal scorers in MLS history. Thorrington also highlighted Kamara’s ties to Southern California where he excelled at Leuzinger High School in Lawndale and later at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
A two-time MLS All-Star and recipient of the 2015 MLS Works Humanitarian of the Year award, and Kamara’s illustrious career includes a standout season with the Columbus Crew in 2015, where he notched a career-high 22 goals and earned a spot on the MLS Best XI. Additionally, he clinched the 2012 U.S. Open Cup title with Sporting Kansas City.
Returning to Southern California after a stint with the Chicago Fire in 2023, Kamara now looks forward to represent LAFC and to contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming seasons. His arrival will add depth and experience to LAFC’s attacking lineup, with a promise of an exciting chapter in the club’s journey in the Major League Soccer.
