The Ministry of Public Administration and Political Affairs on Wednesday 17th April, 2024, has held a fruitful discussion with the Parliamentary Committee on Public Administration and Political Affairs at the Sierra Leone’s Parliament Committee Room One.
The Honorable Minister of Public Administration, Mr. Amara Kallon, gave a presentation in his remarks that outlined the vision, mission, and mandates of the ministry in revamping the Public Service Architecture of the Public Service.
He also provided a brief historical background of the reason why His Excellency the President Dr. Julius Maada Bio named the ministry, citing the APRM Report’s recommendation that countries should prioritize Public Administration as a key factor in every government’s success because service delivery agencies must adopt a citizens-centric approach in their operations.
He emphasized the necessity of defining the roles that comprise the public service, the need to modernize the public service academy, the need to invest in technology to provide services, and the implementation of a centralized hiring process.
The goal of the meeting, which was observed by a large number of journalists and members of the Parliamentary Committee on public administration, was to forge a solid working relationship between the legislative body and the ministry in order to accomplish the big five agenda, of which public administration is the cornerstone.
The Parliamentary Committee on Public Administration and Political Science firmly stated that they would assist the ministry in ensuring that the “big five pillars” of the government are successful.
They applauded the ministry for being brave and meeting with the Committee to inform them of the ministry’s plans.
