It was a jubilant mood in the Chambers of Parliament on Wednesday 13th June 2025 when the Speaker of the Sierra Leone, Hon Segepoh Solomon Thomas announced a recess of the House.
Recently, the Speaker informed lawmakers that they will be going for a recess but they’ll be engaged in oversight functions.
The Speaker insisted that parliamentarians should be effective in the best interest of all and sundry especially their constituents who expect much from them.
Speaker Thomas emphasised on the need for legislators to be robust and diligent in their duties for which they were elected.
Hon. Thomas has promised packages for those MPs who are effective and diligent in the course of their duties.
He stressed that MPs submit their oversight proposals for approval so that all the committees in Parliament will go on oversight to look at the activities of MDAs.
The Speaker has also expressed dismay over those MPs who are not working in the best interest of their people and urged them to be diligent or risk of exposing them to their various political parties.
The MPs are expected to go on oversight in a week time so as to use the recess to engage both their constituents and MDAs.
