The Solicitor General of the government of Sierra Leone, Lawyer Robert Kowa has on the 5th of September, 2023 enlightened the public about the essence of constitutional review process. He made this statement during the weekly press briefing conducted at the Ministry of Information and Civic Education.

The Solicitor General in his presentation said that the constitutional review emanated after the LOME peace accord, and after the war the government initiated for the review of the constitution led by Dr. Peter Tucker.

Lawyer Kowa also proclaimed that the Former President Koroma also formed a committee led by the late justice Cowan and which committee fosters the white paper to come out with a recommendation, but after that, the white paper didn’t come out to be fruitful. In further development, President Bio also set up a committee for the review of the constitution.

He also added that based on court decision, we can come out with something needful and now government has taken decision that other government feel like the enactment of an act, and which act brought about  the abolition of death penalty and repeal of the libel laws.

Furthermore, he cited about the enactment of an education act and the enactment of an act for the representation of women in parliament and this also is a recommendation traded by Justice Cowan and urged us to continue giving support to the  constitution as it is a sacred document for every Sierra Leonean.
