Sport is one of the major loving disciplines for many Sierra Leoneans at home and aboard.
During a proposal discussion, the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima together with the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Madam Nabeela Tunis on Monday 23rd October, 2023 has visited the Lumley Beach to see how they could help Fant Salone to secure a piece of land for the fixing of an artificial turf at Lumley beach.
The turf is expected to be utilized by various football fans and tourists who have an interest in football.
During the closing session, Minister of Tourism, Madam Tunis assured executive members of Fant Salone of their full support to make the project a reality.
She appealed to them to exercise patience while they put modalities in place for them to secure the land.
In her statement, the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima disclosed that they would do the needful so that Fant Salone will start benefiting from the beach.
“They are doing well in promoting sports in the country. An artificial turf at the Lumley beach will attract football fans and tourists”, the Sports Minister said.
“I have seen the project plan for the artificial turf; it is beautiful, the turf will contribute towards the beautification of the beach.”
According to the Project Manager of Fant DK Denmark, Madam Cecilia Haverberg expressed thanks to both Ministers for their support, contributions, and efforts to see the project materialized as it will contribute immensely towards sports development in the country.
“Madam Ministers Fant DK Denmark is totally committed to give massive support to Fant Salone in developing artificial turf pitches in the country. Your good offices would help Fant DK Denmark and Fant Salone in making their dreams a reality.
Senior staff from both ministries, including Permanent Secretary at Tourism, Kwame Yankson, Manager National Tourist Board, Madam Fatmata Hamed Carew, and Mary Thornton and Momodu Alpha from the Ministry of Sports, accompanied the delegation highly appreciate the project proposal submissions.
