The current depreciation of the country’s economy and inflation of prices on local food produces have been caused by low production of farm crops by farmers.
Several surveys and reports have stated that millions of people may die of hunger and starvation if urgent actions are not taken to address food insufficiency in many parts of the world most especially Africa.
Moreover in Sierra Leone, western part of Africa will dwell and experience the terrible situation.
During a brief interview with the Founder and President of Everybody Must Farm (EMF) Organization, Sfano Njawa Sesay, he disclosed that the situation of food insufficiency in Sierra Leone is to be handled with seriousness and that most homes can barely afford one square meal per day.
He furthered that farmers in Sierra Leone are having constraints in accessing enough man power to produce enough crops for sustainability and that leads to shortage and price increment of the food produced.
Sfano disclosed that private sectors and entrepreneurs into agribusiness lack a lot of facilities, encouragement and knowledge to focus on modern and unique methods of agriculture and agribusinesses and that more training and guiding opportunities should be created by leading private sector organizations that will help develop their knowledge about access to finance, leadership abilities, organizational structures and networking, better storage, transportation and marketing skills. Adding that the intervention of the International Labour Organization of the United Nations, the Sierra Leone Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture, the CTI LTD, the Skills Development Fund Secretariat among others supported by the International donors and working with the Everybody Must Farm Organization have helped trained heads of farmers groups in the western rural, urban and Bombali district and have made progress for the good of SMEs of the EMF and that these efforts should be doubled to stop the global trouble about severe hunger in the nearest future.
“Agriculture is the best possible method that can save lives, sustain peace and development in communities”, President Njawa stated. Adding that the misled youths and striving women are useful and that they should be embraced, encouraged and directed to engage in the growing, storage and marketing of local foods for self reliance and economic growth and to save lives during global pandemics and political conflicts.
