An event to promote world tourism investment is to be held on September 27 this year and Sierra Leone will be part of the show.
The warping up activities for September celebrations by Sierra Leone Tourism Ministry had been planned ahead. On 11 September, this year, tourism issued a press statement on tourism celebrations and it was part of the ministry’s capacity- building efforts aligned with ministerial performance ahead of the D-Day.
The Director of Tourism, Mohammed Jalloh, in his statement, said to mark this this year’s occasion, agencies and partners have planned series of events aimed at engaging rural communities, thus promoting school tourism business adventures, also targeting youth and woman groups in the country.
He said these are designed for symbiotic relationships between tourism and peace agencies.
He further explained that this event would promote domestic tourism while highlighting economic benefits for the country.
The Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MTCA) Nabeela Farida Tunis, in her statement said MTCA will team up with agencies and partners to proudly be part of the global community in commemorating this year’s World Tourism Day 2024.
Madam Tunis says the event has always been observed on the 27 September serving as a powerful reminder of tourism importance on nations worldwide.
She said it is a day to celebrate the transformative power of tourism and to promote sustainable practices while recognizing the rich cultural diversity that countries can showcase of their tourism value.
The celebration traced back its historical significance since 1770 which is the foundation for international recognition of tourism.
Since 1980 Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs has been celebrating this important day reaffirming that “our nation is commitment to fostering tourism as a drive for growth and development,” Madam Tunis said.
The theme for this year’s celebrations is Tourism for Peace.
The minister highlights the pivotal role tourism plays in promoting peace and in resolving conflicts both within and across borders.
She explained the synergy between tourism and other sectors which cannot be overstated.
She said the cultural celebrations immensely help in bringing people together from diverse backgrounds.
“Tourism activities do not only attract tourists visit but also enhances our global image to ensuring a future for a sustainable tourism for all.”
