A mother named Kashopeh Smith and her daughter Remi Smith were on Wednesday 6th November 2024 sent to remand by Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No2.
They were alleged to have murdered one Superintendent Arnold Adeyemi Coker.
The accused persons made third appearance in court and were arraigned on four counts charges of murder as contrary to section 1 of the Offences Against the Persons Act 1816.
They are accused for perverting the course of justice contrary to law. So for misprision of felony contrary to law and for other related offences.
According to the indictments on count one, the accused Kashopeh Smith on Monday 2nd September 2024, at No 37 Carr Street Hastings, Freetown, murdered superintendent Arnold Adeyemi Coker.
The police further alleged on count two that the first accused Kashopeh Smith on the same date and place knowing the circumstances leading to the murder of Superintendent Arnold Adeyemi Coker on Monday 2nd September 2024, they instead fabricated evidence with intent to pervert the course of justice.
It was also alleged on counts three that the accused Remi Smith between 1st and 2nd September 2024 at the same address knowing well that her mother Kashopeh Smith had committed an offence of murder she unlawfully concealed the commission of the said felony.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused persons no plea was taken.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Juan M.S Bull was the led Prosecution witness number two. Vidal Coker who resides at 4 Lord Street Freetown and he works at Mastinvest Trading SL Limited said he recognized the accused persons in the dock.
And that he knew well Superintendent Adeyemi Coker now deceased in the matter.
He recalled on the 2nd September 2024 on the 1st September he and the deceased went to St Thomas Church Hastings and after the service they went for a lunch and watched Manchester United game later.
They dispatched around 6:30 in the evening hours and the witness said on the 2nd September 2024
he left his house heading to the junction around the central area at Hastings where he had people communicating but he didn’t give much of his attention on that.
And on his way going he met the deceased daughter.
He told his children to check the dead and he said his son called him and told him that it was the deceased Adeyemi Coker lying dead.
Upon that he took a motorbike direct to the scene where he met a crowd surrounding the deceased with two slippers,mutzig beer pint and upon that he went to call one Mrs. French who is normally called Aunty Lulu.
They took the deceased to his house and thereafter police officers came around and identified the corpse and escorted it to Connaught mortuary.
The witness was cross examined by defense counsel Claudius Campbell Esq.
Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused person to the male correctional facility in Freetown.
The matter was adjourned to 13th November 2024.
