Based on the poor display and the wasting of taxpayers’ money in the African Cup of Nations Qualifiers, the Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai has apologized to the people of Sierra Leone during an interview at Radio Democracy 98.1’s Good Morning Salone programme.
He expressed regrets over Leone Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
“On behalf of the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority, I want to unreservedly say sorry to the people of Sierra Leone for the national football team’s inability to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON,” Abdulai said.
Acknowledging the disappointments felt by fans and stakeholders, Abdulai also took the opportunity to express gratitude to the Government of Sierra Leone, led by President Bio, for its continued financial and moral support to the sports sector.
He further assured the nation that the NSA is committed to taking decisive actions to ensuring that the Leone Stars are better prepared for future campaigns, with measures in place to avoid similar outcomes in upcoming tournaments.
