The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, has told authorities representing various departments and agencies that they are ready to clean the audit report this time, meaning to look into the report proper.
He further said all the monies collected are being put into the consolidated revenue fund straight away, adding that his committee has not been collecting a dime from any MDA.
Hon Tawa Conteh said, unlike other institutions, his Public Account Committee (PAC) is not charging anything as percentage or commission on monies collected.
The authorities from the National Revenue Authority (NRA) had earlier said the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) always collects percentage on whatever monies collected from institutions engaging in corrupt practices.
However, the Deputy Speaker re-echoed in his stance that their committee is charged with the mandate to look into finances of MDAs and would always work by the law.
“We are not asking for a percentage. We are helping government to recoup monies lost and send those monies to the consolidated revenue fund. The monies collected are monies used to pay government workers,” Hon Tawa said.
He said since his committee started sittings on the probe into the Audit Service report, they have collected over Le30 billion and that in the next couple of days they are sure to collect over Le 3 billion.
He informed MPs that the monies were collected from owners of defaulting businesses.
He emphasised that anyone who fails to pay his Goods and Services Tax that individual or his business account will be garnished.
He pointed out the lots of monies still in the hands of some defaulting businesses.
“My committee will recover government monies and my committee and I will stop at nothing to garnish accounts of tax defaulters, ” he asserted.
Hon Deputy Speaker also reiterated that, his committee has the blessing from the Speaker and the President and those who think they cannot pay their taxes will face his committee and will pay by law.
However, the committee vetted several institutions and monies have been paid to the consolidated revenue fund.
“Many people have reported me to my boss, President Julius Maada Bio. “
