The Acting Regional Commander for the Freetown East Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. John Martin Senessie during the weekly police media briefing on Tuesday 18th April, 2023 at the Police Headquarters on George Street has disclosed that the Sierra Leone Police together with the National Small Arms Commission will soon embark on a nationwide legal firearms verification process.
ACP Dr. John Martin Senessie was responding to questions posed by journalists over the death of the Regional Coordinator of the Operational Support Division for the North, ASP Mathew Moiwah Gbanya at Station road, in Makeni by unidentified gunman. He assured all that the verification process will commence very soon but did not explain the methods and techniques they are going to implement.
On his part, the Deputy Operations Officer attached to the CID Headquarters along Pademba Road Joshua Fritzlnun Moisa said that five empty bullet shells of 9x9mm caliber were discovered inside the private vehicle of ASP Gbanya. He said the perpetrator was in a not too far distance before releasing the trigger.
However, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Patrick Johnson said the police will not rest until the perpetrators are brought to book.
