The Parliament of Sierra Leone has on Friday 30th August 2024 went on a recess to be lasting for two months period.
The House of laws is expected to resume sittings on the 31st of October 2024.
This last sitting was presided by Hon Neneh Lebbie, who is representing Bo District. It marked a history making event as it had a female acting Speaker in Parliament appointed in such enviable role.
During the sitting on Friday, the Acting Speaker of Parliament, Hon Neneh Lebbie thanked members in the House Representatives for the privilege accorded her to act as Speaker of Parliament .
Hon Neneh Lebbie is the third female Speaker of Parliament in the history of Sierra Leone and she proved to be very supportive to the course of her political party and the nation as a whole.
During the sitting the Speaker said the move to empower women is in the right direction and she thanked President Bio for the opportunity he is giving to women to speak up their minds and for allowing them to hold key political positions.
“I appreciate you so much for this Devine appointment as the third woman to have occupied this seat, I thank you all, ” Hon. Neneh Lebbie.
However, Members of Parliament have tabled their oversight reports in the Chambers of Parliament.
The Member of Parliament from Bo District Hon. Joseph Williams Lamin tabling Committee of Technical and Higher Education, reported on the oversight done into the higher education institutions.
The Opposition Deputy leader of Parliament Hon. Daniel Karoma reminded the House for all Committees’ reports to be debated on a special date allocated by the Business Committee.
On the tabling of the Committee reports, only SLPP Committee Chairpersons have so so far have fulfilled their tasks.
The Deputy Attorney General has also tabled the Tribunal Report into the previous investigations done against Sierra Leone’s Audit Services heads, Auditor-General, Madam Taylor-Pearce and her Deputy Mr Tamba Momoh.
