One of the presidential appointees who have lived to the expectations of His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and Sierra Leoneans, in general, is the result-oriented Director General of Sierra Leone Ports and Habours Authority (SLPHA), Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio.
The Director General has not only made the SLPHA the top-performing agency under the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, but his administration has also made Sierra Leone’s principal maritime gateway, the Port of Freetown to be recognised as one of the top-performing container ports of Africa in 2022 and 2023, according to the Container Port Performing Index.
Notwithstanding Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio’s dedication and commitment to advance the SLPHA to global standards, there are some unpatriotic miscreants trying to damage his reputation by making false accusations which they cannot substantiate.
Since the alleged trafficking of drugs became debatable among Sierra Leoneans at home and abroad, some detractors have written several fake stories in both the traditional and social media relating Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio and the SLPHA to the alleged drug trafficking despite the lack of evidence to substantiate such claims.
A failed Sierra Leonean politician abroad falsely claimed that Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio, who is a close relative of President Julius Maada Bio, has been implicated in a scandal involving the escape of Jo’s Leijdekkers, a notorious European cocaine smuggler.
These unpatriotic miscreants behind the smearing campaign against Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio failed politicians at home and abroad who have not only failed their people woefully but have absolutely nothing to offer Sierra Leone.
The once incarcerated politician and presidential candidate, Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, who travelled abroad after his incarceration, is one of the misdirected politicians behind the fake accusations levelled against Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio aimed at damaging his reputation and, by extension, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Government.
In a recent social media audio post, Kamarainba claimed that Bio, along with several other prominent Sierra Leoneans, allegedly orchestrated efforts to expedite Leijdekkers’ departure from Sierra Leone l, raising serious concerns about corruption and drug trafficking networks.
It is, therefore, in the best interest of Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray and his like minds to stop using monetised writers to smear the progressive young Director General of SLPHA for political and financial reasons.
Very soon, we will start naming and shaming the politicians and their writers behind the smearing campaign against Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio and his reputable institution.
Some writers believe that the only way to extort money from the Director General is by faking stories about him and harassing him for money in order to retract them. But Mr. Yankuba Askia Bio has no skeleton in his cupboard, and no one would succeed in damaging his reputation for what he knows nothing about.
