Forty years old Sylvester Musa alias Sylvester Amara, a Nurse made his first appearance before Magistrate Augustine Brima Samura of Pademba Road Court No.8 on two count charges to wit larceny by servant, contrary to 17 (i) of the Larceny Act 1916 and fraudulent conversion of property, contrary to section 20 (iv) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the particulars of offence, on Saturday 26th April 2025 at Pujehun Government hospital, in the Pujehun judicial district in the Southern province of Sierra Leone, stole seventy six cartons and thirty three boxes of assorted free healthcare medical drugs being storekeeper at the Pujehun Government Hospital, Pujehun town.
In count two, on the above date and place, the accused person seventy six cartons and thirty three boxes of assorted free healthcare medical drugs, property of Pujehun Government Hospital which were entrusted to him for the purpose of safekeeping, which he fraudulently converted to his own use or benefit.
No plea was taken when the charges were read and explained to the accused.
Prosecution witness number one Sergeant 9859 Sahr Koroma Sundu attached to the TOCU Hastings as an investigator he recall 3rd May 2025 he was on duty when a transferred case and enquiry file of unlawful possession of seventy six cartoons and thirty three boxes of assorted pharmaceutical drugs suspected to be free healthcare drugs from Freetown West police division was assigned to him containing the following documents, endorsed search warrant dated 26th April 2025 the search warrant was produced and tendered in court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit A. The arresting officers report dated 26 April 2025 was also produced and tendered in the court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit B1-3, the request for verification and quantification of the drugs dated 28th April 2025 was also produced and tendered in the court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit C1-2, the voluntary caution statement of the accused dated the 26th April 2025 was also tendered in the court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit D1-10. The witness said the matter was allocated to him for further investigation on 3rd May 2025 and that himself and DPC 15063 Maju M. obtained an additional caution statement from the accused person in Krio language which was recorded in English language and at the conclusion of the statement, it was read over and explained to the accused person which he admitted it to be true and correct by afflicting his right hand thumbprint witness by the said investigator and he signed as the recorder the further caution statement was produced and tendered in the court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit E1-15 on the same date a case and enquiry file was sent to the DPP for advice. He retrieved the advice dated 29th May 2025 and was produced and tendered in the court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit F.
On the 29th May, 2025 himself together with the said investigator obtained charge statement from the accused person with the offence he is standing trial by using the same procedure as in the voluntary caution statement witnessed by the said investigator and he signed as the recorder. The charge statement was produced and tendered in the court to form part of the court records marked as exhibit G1-3, he concluded.

Meanwhile, Magistrate Samura granted bail to the accused person in the sum of one hundred thousand leones with two sureties in like sum, sureties must be residents in Freetown and should produce national identity cards depicting their addresses in Freetown and bail to be approved by the Deputy assistant Registrar and matter was adjourned to 3rd July, 2025.
