An opposition politician, Hon Memunatu Jalloh, has donated 20 dozen mats, 20 dozen rubber-kettles and a purse of NLE 5,000 for each of the 20 masjids in Port Loko district.
All items amount to NLE 70.000 being given as charity (zakat) for the upcoming Holy month of Ramadan.
“I have specifically donated these items firstly because it is a requirement for us Muslims to do so,” she said.
The economic worsening situation, which is stranding many people in the country, Hon Memunatu said had also ignited her interest to doing such a charity.
“Most people are economically stranded and can’t afford the things they use to provide for themselves during the Holy month of Ramadan.”
“Despite the people are having little cash, in the fasting month they will gladly submit themselves to the will of Allah by observing the fasting.”
“I’ve donated these items because it is written that whatsoever a man soweth so shall he reaps.”
I am doing this to attract the divine blessings and favour of Allah.”
Hon. Jalloh is a new female MP who has delivered on her duty to the best of her ability in less than a year in office.
“I have not only targeted 20 masjids for this Ramadan, but before now, I had provided school learning items for the past NPSE girls in the whole of Massemira chiefdom, Port Loko district,” she said.
“I also contributed some money on the building of a police station, I have offered scholarships to university students, and have provided food to workers on road works, and I have done a lot more.”
Madam Memunatu Jalloh was a former teacher, but now a politician and also a business woman who is diligently representing his people.
She said she had been raising funds from her salary as MP and from her business venture to undertake such charitable activities.
She, however; would love to get other extra help from other people.
“I wish to do more if friends and partners support me.”
Hon Jalloh said she wanted her Islamic community to live a decent life and work to follow the commands of Allah.
“My message to people of other faiths is for us to continue to be religiously tolerant in a secular state of democracy, and follow the commandments of the Almighty God for an uplifting of our nation.”
