The Executive Director of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority, Rev. Smart K. Senesie viewed Road Safety challenges as numerous in the country and therefore, calls for collaboration with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies in order to achieve the UN Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.
The astute and result oriented Executive Director of SLRSA in an interview with this medium said that Road Safety should not be compromised as its related consequences are unselective.
Rev. Senesie furthered that on the 27th June 2024 while travelling to Bo for a Board and Management review of the Implementation Framework of Autospect since the commencement of it operations a year ago, he intercepted an unregistered and unlicensed vehicle which was overloaded with goods and passengers along the Masiaka-Mile 91 highway risking the lives of citizens.
According to Rev. Senesie, he told his driver to drive slowly behind the said vehicle until they got to Mile 91, where he handed over the said vehicle to the police for necessary actions.
This and many other unlawful behaviours of drivers along the highways within the country have necessitated the need for the establishment of Highway Management Unit of the Authority to reduce road traffic crashes on our road said Rev. Senesie.
