The Speaker of Parliament Hon. Sengepoh Solomon Thomas has informed MPs and Sierra Leoneans that a woman-to-woman or man-to-man relationship or marriages are condemned in Sierra Leone.
“As Sierra Leoneans, we might be poor but we fear God. We cannot tolerate such marriages in our nation,” he said.
He made the submissions during the Committee stage on the amendment and repeal of the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA) in the Chambers of Parliament.
According to the Speaker, anyone caught doing bisexual marriage is going to be dealt with by the country’s moral guarantors.
He said Sierra Leone is a country of religion, pointing that the country has Christianity and Islam and the two religions never accepted same sex marriage.
The Speaker said, Sierra Leone as a religious nation believes that women to men marriages are the only one people of Sierra Leone accept.
“Any other marriage than that will be a big no,” he said.
On the same vein, parliament has voted and approved unanimously, the passage of the Bill entitled “The Criminal Procedure Act, 2024, into law.
“This is a major milestone in the justice delivery process in Sierra Leone,” he said.
The new Act, once it comes into effect, will repeal and replace the Criminal Procedure Act of 1965.
Efforts to review and replace the 1965 Act started more than 20 years ago, he said.
“Thanks to President Bio for making this a manifesto promise, and for putting it in the performance contract signed by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice.”
“The Attorney General has set a timeline to deliver on this and with his leadership, the office has delivered,” the deputy speaker said.
