Before now, heads of the ruling SLPP have labeled the APC as rebels, terrorists and group of thieves who are not good for themselves and the country at large.
However, despite all these negative descriptions, those who can recall were bewildered yesterday 7th November 2023 to see and admirable cool and cozy relationship visibly displayed between these onetime foe family like the Capulet and Montage in the Shakespearean Romeo and Juliet drama.
Interestingly, they were not only cheering, showering praises on the new but old MPs of the opposition who officially took oath of office, but they were eating and drinking together in the canteen which sent a very clear and deep message to the entire nation and the world at large that Sierra Leone has finally attained total peace. The fact remains that, since President Bio assumed leadership under the flag of the SLPP, the country has been caustically exposed to an endless political turmoil exacerbated from the dimension that he introduced to rule which paved the way for a wide range of acrimony between the two giant political parties in the country, the opposition ALL PEOPLE’S CONGRESS (APC) and the SIERRA LEONE PEOPLE’S PARTY (SLPP). Happy to majority of citizens to see that that ugly episode has become a by-gone be by-gone affair which symbolizes the fact that Sierra Leone has taken a positive step to change for a better. And this latest development will give the impetus to even those in the suburbs that our hard won peace that was before this time described as fragile has got strong footing, given the fact that the whole thing cropped up as a result of the standoff between these two parties, the SLPP and the APC which lasted for many years and even cost the country dearly at the peril of all citizens in all aspects.
In fact, many people believe that one of the factors that precipitated the current difficult situation in the country was the disunity between these two parties.
In the words of our popular musician Emerson Bockarie, “Truth has only different name”, so the truth remains that the too much noise about tribalism, regionalism in Salone will only come to play during national political tussle. And when once it is over, Sierra Leoneans are the most united people whose daily activities are precisely interwoven.
In view of the latest development, many citizens are optimistic that the country will soon move in a positive direction that will impact economic growth, that our current precarious standard of living for which the ruling SLPP is constantly receiving a barrage of bashing will be impressively improved.
