The wise bird has been flying from Chiefdom to Chiefdom especially at those without Paramount Chiefs to be properly acquainted with the performance and/or activities of the Regent Chiefs and to see how they are coping up with their subjects.

Bra Parrot has been reliably informed that, some Regent Chiefs do not stay in the Chiefdom they claimed to be representing; the government just had imposed them on the people to suit their comfort.

As the wise bird is very much knowledgeable and has a wider understanding of how Chiefs are elected and knows well the method and processes involve in crowning Chiefs or the procedures Chiefs normally take to be appointed and/or hand-picked their Chiefdom Speakers , but this is nothing good to write home about.

In the first place Paramount Chiefs are elected based on Chieftaincy inheritance in some Chiefdoms, and in others, it is rotational with certain qualifications lay down by the Chieftaincy Act, and the conditions set out by the ruling house(s).

People would agree with the brave bird that, Chiefdom Speakers are second in-command in the hierarchy of the Chiefdom administration.

Bra Parrot therefore considers that position of Chiefdom Speaker to be very important, and must be voted for as the Speaker can take a decision in the Chiefdom in the absent of the Paramount Chief and that decision is binding.

Paramount Chiefs and Chiefdom Speakers must not be forced on people, if that happens, the Chief will have little or no love and respect for the people.

Giving such mandatory powers from the power that be to the Paramount Chief will be setting the stage for chaos and anarchy in the Chiefdom at all times.

In some Chiefdoms power is being centralized around the Paramount Chief and his family only.

Bra Parrot is therefore suggesting that, as Paramount Chiefs are elected, something should apply to Chiefdom Speakers and Section Chiefs as we are now seeing that to be happening, village Head-men are democratically elected.

During the Colonial days, Paramount Chiefs were crowned according to their bravery and exemplary performance in the battle field; those were the days when a man’s heroic display in battles would win him the crown or throne of power, but today, it is not like that.

Sometimes, the brave bird wonders if the Local Government Minister is thoroughly and sincerely doing his homework well with regards to how some Paramount Chiefs were supposedly elected.

The wise bird has been reliably informed that, come January 2024, elections will be held in almost all the vacant Chiefdoms.

The problem(s) the wise bird is envisaging is about the credibility of the election – will it be free, fear and transparent as per law?

This is the time the Commission and by extension the Chairman Mr. Momamed K. Konneh should redeem his image as his name is always at the centre of controversies when it comes to electioneering process in the country.

The wise bird will conclude by saying that, the position of Chiefdom Speaker is almost the same to that of a Paramount Chief and that is more the reason the position should be voted for democratically.
