Hundreds of stakeholders and community dwellers of Constituency 071, Masimera Chiefdom, Port Loko District on Monday 15th January 2024, were in jubilant mood, joy and appreciations welcoming their MP Hon Memunatu Jalloh aka Hon Mems.
The attendees at the ceremony are in joyful mood when the MP donated cash for the construction of a Police Station in their community and call for unity.
The Chiefdom, according to Stakeholders, has twelve (12) sections which are densely populated and over the years they have gone without a police station, adding that the people had seriously struggled in the past years to get justice.
Lots of imams and community stakeholders who converged at the Chiefdom headquarters of Masimera to grace the colorful ceremony marked the conducted thank-you tour by Hon Mems since her voted in June 24, 2023.
The purpose of the meeting is also to be acquainted with the political leadership of the Chiefdom and other influential indigenes of the Masimera Chiefdom as well as mappped out strategies for development.
Making her statement, the Member of Parliament, Hon Mems, expressed thanks and appreciation to her electorates, who elected her during the June 24 elections.
Hon Mems pleaded to her people of Masimera Chiefdom to stay united and work in peace and for development of the Community.
“I have not only come to say thank you for everything you have done for me, but I have also come to tell you that my leadership will soon embark on the support to construct the police station at Konta Line,” she said.
The MP urged the Muslim Jamats to work towards enhancing the peaceful co-existence among his constituents in the Chiefdom, underscored that the security aspect is lacking in Masimera community, especially the challenge for police station in the community.
“Over the years my people have been complaining of lack of police station at a chiefdom that is densely populated. My people travelled miles away in search of police stations to report their cases.”
The absence of the police station, they said, had increased crime rate within the vicinity, as many cannot afford to travel to Mile 91, Masiaka and Lunsar to seek justice.
“This is ridiculous,” Hon Mems said.
The construction of a Police Station, she lamented, will help the community from reporting cases without exorbitant travel expenditures.
However, as a start, the MP donated the sum of Nle20, 000 for the commencement on the construction work of the police station at Konta Line which will serve thousands of community dwellers in the Masimera Chiefdom.
Addressing the mammoth crowd of imams and community stakeholders, the Paramount Chief of Masimra Chiefdom, PC Bai Simera Naise Kapen III, thanked the MP for her visit in her constituency, adding that one of the best gifts from God to Masimera was when Hon Mems became its democratically elected Member of Parliament representing his Chiefdom.
He welcome the MP to his Chiefdom, adding that he was certain that with the entire initial steps so far, he was sure that Masimera was moving in the right direction.
He called on the people of Masimera to embrace the MP and support her development aspirations.
PC Kapen III said, the meeting which attracted the imams in the 12 sections is very important and it is also geared towards having a platform to be praying for development at Masimera Chiefdom.
He explained that January 15 was the month and day Masimera Chiefdom was de-amalgamated and became independent.
The Chief revealed that as a Chief, he urged all his subjects to observe the 15 January every year and pray for the development of the Chiefdom and its people.
PC Kapen III said God has blessed the Masimera Chiefdom because most of the indigenes are very influential across the country and assured unity and development of his Chiefdom.
He appealed to those influential citizens of her Chiefdom to come home and help their people, stressing that January 15th every year will be a day of evaluation of the development in his community.
Alhaji Kuyateh who served as the Chairman of the ceremony spoke on the cordiality among stakeholders in the Chiefdom and thanked the MP and the PC to galvanize Muslims Jamat to pray for the Chiefdom.
An influential indigene of the Masimera Chiefdom, Alhaji Osman Thunkla Bangura, disclosed the development of the Chiefdom, especially the proposed construction of electricity dam on a water fall at their community which, he said, will benefit the locals and them the landowners.
He guaranteed that the water fall belongs to the Masimera Chiefdom and if all goes well as planned the Masimera Chiefdom will request for 30% employment quota share from the mines.
John B Sesay also spoke on the just concluded exploration in some of the sections in the Masimera Chiefdom, and he pointed out bauxite mineral to have been discovered in the chiefdom and a company may soon come and start the mining while locals especially the youths will benefit a lot in terms of employment with viable projects be implemented.
Councilor Haja Musu Bangura, the youth leader, Santigie S. Koroma, all thanked the MP and stakeholders for their timely meeting to discuss development and growth for the Chiefdom.
The Youth leader admonished stakeholders to advice their youths to avoid smoking Kush as it has health complications as he said most youth have been subsequently killed by the deadly substance.
Abdul Karim S Bangura, who gave the votes of thanks, lauded the MP and the PC for their unflinching support for the development of the Chiefdom.
Karim Bangura informed that the newly elected MP representing Masimera is God fearing and urged all indigenes to avoid political infighting and support the MP whom, he said, comes as a developer.
“I can assure you that our MP is developmentally oriented and she has proved worthy so far,” he asserted.
Bangura further calls for unity, collaboration and urged all to work towards promoting the Chiefdom and its people.
