To secure proper safe drinking water and sanitation for the people of Sierra Leone, the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, has held their Annual Retreat with the theme ‘Strengthening The Sanitation Component Within the Water Sector for Effective Service Delivery’.
The event was held at the Galliness Conference Hall in Bo from the 31st January to the 2nd February 2024.
In her keynote address, the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Dr. Sao-Kpato Hannah Isata Macarthy, said that she acknowledged all the water sectors for coming together and recognizing this occasion as stakeholders to mobilize resources and go ahead with the implementation process.
She requested to the parliamentary committee of Water Resources and Sanitation to advocate for additional budget in the WASH Sector.
She pointed out that the theme was holistically chosen so that the sanitation component within the water sector will realize effective service delivery and called on all Sierra Leoneas to support the ministry.
The deputy minister, Francis Kallon, who made his presentation dilated on many issues on the Water and Sanitation, pointing out the vision, goal, strategic direction and the new mandate and policies together with the regulations and standards for the WASH Sector.
The senior permanent secretary of the ministry, Brima Sowa, reminded and encouraged stakeholders to demonstrate honesty and commitment to implement the alignment of service delivery.
The Chairman Parliamentary Committee on Water Resources and Sanitation Hon, Musa Momoh, mentioned that the retreat is meant to reflect on the milestones, challenges, ongoing activities and expressed assurance and support the ministry of water resources and sanitation in and out of parliament.
The Chairman of the ceremony, Joseph Munda Bindi, revealed that climate change is critical and time for new innovation is now whilst the Mayor of Bo City, Kabba Musa, said that sanitation is so critical lamenting about the poor insanity condition of sacket packaging of water companies in Bo.
Very brilliant contributions were made by key stakeholders and a talk on importance of a team good working relations was done by Abdul Bah the M and E officer.
