Ahead of the biggest encounter between Ivory Coast and Leone Stars in the AFCON group G match, the veteran Captain, Steven Caulker talks tough to be able to win the upcoming game against their counterpart.
The veteran national team football captain, Steven Caulker speaks of his leadership role in the team.
“I take my role as captain of my country and vice-captain of my club very seriously,” Caulker said.
“It is my responsibility to lead by example and help guide others along the way.”
TheAnkara-Keçiörengücü defender was recently named in the Leone Stars squad to feature against African champions, Ivory Coast in this week’s AFCON Qualifiers.
“The veteran defender also reflected on his first leadership responsibility at a young age,” he said.
Caulker was made the Leone Stars’ captain just months before the team participated in AFCON qualifying of 2025.
Morroco are to host the African Nations Cup 2025, next year while Ivory Coast it 2024.
The former England U21 defender said he is committed to ensuring his team qualify in ghe 2025 AFCON qualifying.
But Leone Stars, in 2024, failed to qualify for AFCON tournament played in Ivory Coast.
Despite having just one point from two matches for Morocco’s African Cup qualifying, the team will face the defending champions, Ivory Coast National Football Team, in Africa, at an away game in Ivory Coast on Friday, October 11 in San Pedro Stadium before hosting the retune leg on Tuesday, October 15 in Monrovia, Libera.
Sierra Leone is unable to play home matches in Freetown’s National Stadium due to overhauling works at the moment.
