Like any peace loving citizen in this of our beloved country, Bra Parrot has been concerned about the ugly development since the end of the June 24th general elections which the largest opposition party refused its outcome citing rigging and other irregularities.
This situation has forced the peaceful animal to leave his comfort zone and move up and down the country not only to sound the views of people about the present situation, but importantly how together we can find a lasting solution to the problem for peace to reign once again.
Of course as expected the views were mixed. While some squarely apportioned the blame on the ruling Green House administration, others also blamed the opposition Red House for the problem.
But whatever the situation, the peaceful bird doesn’t want the issue of blame game as that will only add burden to the shoulders of the already impoverished population.
During, those missions some aggrieved people mainly the opposition noted that the government is responsible for both political and economic stalemate in the country and have deliberately neglected them.
Some say the question of lack of peace in the country started way before Ernest Bai Koroma left power in 2018, adding that the situation was however better than today.
The Red House supporters believe that during the days of their former President, peace was somehow sustained as compare to now when we’re still struggling to maintain it.
They said that despite President Bio has set up a peace commission in his quest for Sierra Leone to peaceably coexist as a united nation, that commission is yet to take off the ground in earnest, claiming that people have been killed, others still in detention while some have fled the country in fear.
To them, it’s like a preacher man preaching the virtues but practicing the vices.
Bra Parrot has personally observed that the just concluded peace talks at Bintumani which he was fortunate to attend, is yet to yield the desirable fruits.
In that regard, it’s now the onus of the ruling government to tackle the present chaotic state in the country without over reliance on the international community which is very much possible if they ready to do so.
It’s claimed that the lackadaisical attitude of the SLPP toward peace is to prolong its stay in power as long as possible even at the detriment of democracy.
The reality is, peace and democracy are no longer at work in the country.
But the question people are asking is that, between Ernest Bai Koroma and Maada Bio who really doesn’t want peace and development in the country? This is a food for thought.
