The current Deputy Sierra Leone Ambassador to Guinea, Fatmata Sawaneh, is reported to have swiftly intervened to quell the mounting tensions arising at the Gbalamuya border between Sierra Leone and Guinea.
The proactive stance of Her Excellency Fatmata Sawaneh has been commended by locals in Kambia and beyond.
Earlier, eyewitnesses account saysGuinean soldiers and police had forceful escorted Sierra Leonean deportees from Guinea.
The tense situation has been described by many as sabotage due to the long standing bilateral relationship between the two countries.
Reports said houses of Sierra Leoneans in Guinea were being demolished, rendering Sierra Leoneans to become.
It was repoted that at Gbalamuya Guinean military and police had closes their border-side which resulted to a tense atmosphere.
According to eyewitnesses account, homes of many Sierra Leoneans were vandalized while residents were evacuates without any prior notification sent to Sierra Leone’s embassy in Guinea.
It is believed, then, that for three days the situation is still tense there as many Sierra Leoneans who are doing business in Guinea are stock in the border area.
Meanwhile, authorities on both sides, Guinean government and Sierra Leone, have expressed plans to cool down the tempo.
