In an interactive session in the Chambers of Parliament, the Speaker of Parliament, Hon Segepoh Solomon Thomas recognized Members of parliament who are punctual and diligent in their parliamentary work for which they are elected.
The Speaker drawn special recognition to Hon Wuyata Barnadette Songa who is one of the most punctual and committed MPs.
Madam Hon Barnerdette Wuyata Songa’s status has changed due to the recent elections of her husban, Sir Jimmy Batillo Songa who won the SLPP’s Championship elections with a landslide victory.
Speaker Thomas in his stern warning told Members of parliament from the SLPP MPs to now behave themselves if they want symbols for the next parliament after 2028 general elections.
He made the statements on Tuesday 5th August 2025 in the Well of parliament.
“Wuyata Songa’s husband is now the chairman of the SLPP, please behave yourselves if you want your symbols,” Speaker warned.
The Speaker has also warned MPs who abandon their parliamentary duties, stating that those MPs will soon name and shame in public.
The Speaker of Parliament expressed his frustration about members who have proved to remain adamant to his several admonitions to be punctual.
He promised to give unpunctual parliamentarians “ special medals for lateness” while commending those House Members that are punctual and always on time for the past four years and pledged to give them packages and awards come December this year.
The leadership of Parliament had requested the Speaker of Parliament to look into the continuous lateness of their colleagues.Since the commencement of the Sixth Parliament, the Speaker had been constantly cautioning MPs to be in attendance and in time whenever the House is meeting, but seemingly, lawmakers hadn’t heeded to the said advice.
