An Italian national who is identified as Newton Johnson, yesterday, made another appearance before Magistrate, Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2.
He appeared in court for alledgely been found with two compressed Parcels of cocaine at the Freetown International Airport Lungi.
The accused person was arriaged before the court on two count charges of a collection of prohibited drugs without lawful authority and for possession of prohibited drugs contrary to section 8(a) of the national Drugs control act of 2008.
The indictment states that accused Newton Johnson on Saturday 9th November, 2024 at the Freetown International Airport Lunging, was found with two compressed parcels of cocaine without lawful authority.
In his testimony, the witness sergeant 9589 Prince Joe Kpandiara Jabatti said he is attached at the Transnational Organise Crime Unit at Hastings and that he recognized the accused person in the dock.
He recalled on Thursday 10th October 2024, adding that on the said day, he was on duty when a transfer and enquiry file containing voluntary caution statements of the accused, an arresting officer report, two parcel containing white powder substance suspected to be cocained.
The accused person was handed over to him for further investigation.
He said he handed over the two parcels of cocaine to the exhibit clerk for safe keeping.
The witness further states that on the 10 November 2024, he and DPC 13859 Amara S obtained additional voluntary caution statements from the accused person by observing the judges rules.
The additional caution statements were produced and tendered in court to form part of the court records.
He said on the 10th November 2024, a written request for analysis and examination of the two compress parcel was forwarded to the laboratory unit.
Witness Koroma further that on the 12 November 2024, the accused person while in their custody was reported sick and police medical report was issue to him for treatment.
He further that on the
16 November 2024, the laboratory analyst gave him a report of his findings about of the two parcels.
The report was produced before the court for identification.
The police witness further that on the
20 November 2024, he charged the accused with the offenses of collecting a prohibited drugs and possession of prohibited drugs without lawful authority.
After the testimony of the witness, defense counsel S. L Lewis sought for an adjournment that he will cross examine the witness on the next adjourned date.
The accused was remanded in custody and the matter was adjourned to Thursday 19th December 2024 for cross examination.
