The All People’s Congress (APC) party female Member of Parliament, Hon Catherine Tarawallie has demanded a daycare facility in Parliament.
Standing on Standing Order 23, in Parliament past Thursday, Hon Catherine Tarawallie, said the law house has so many young female MPs who want to give birth to children and so they need a daycare that will help them.
He alluded to the fact that, all over the world, Parliament have such facilities that will help lawmakers in taking care of their children and collect them after Parliamentary sessions.
The MP said the child care is not just a matter of necessity for parents; it is a crucial cornerstone of a thriving society, stating that the well-being and development of their youngest generation hold the key to a better future.
She said there are a multitude of reasons why accessible and reliable child care in Parliament is not only beneficial for parents and children; it also plays a vital role in the overall health and prosperity of our society.
It could be recalled that in the modern world, many households rely on dual incomes to make ends meet while some are single wage earner households.
Without accessible and reliable child care options, parents, particularly mothers, may be forced to leave the workforce. This can lead to economic strain for families and hinder career progression. Child care programs, for children birth to 12 years old, enable parents to go to work to establish and maintain their careers. This sets families on a trajectory toward financial stability.
The early years of a child’s life are a crucial period for cognitive, emotional, and social development. High-quality child care centers provide nurturing environments that foster learning, socialization, and emotional growth. They offer structured activities, educational programs, and interactions that contribute to each child’s overall development. In that way, high-quality early childhood education can set the stage for a child’s lifelong success.
