The Anti-Corruption Commissioner Francis Ben Keifala has made a call on all Ministers and Heads of Departments, Agencies, Institutions and nationally to take the destiny of the country a little bit more serious while he was updating the Press on the 2021 Audit report on Wednesday 4th January 2023 at the St. George’s Cathedral conference room.
According to Francis Ben Keifala most of the issues in the 2021 Auditor General’s report resulted from administrative responsibility, adding that people who are supposed to supervise their staff to ensure that certain information are provided to Auditors are either failing in their responsibility or are not sufficiently supervising to ensure that things are done.
He stated that when an Audit report is out and raises the same issues year in year out it appears that the administrator are not holding their staff accountable, but said that almost as importantly they are not even holding themselves accountable.
Francis Ben Keifala disclosed that the 2021 Audit report shows that there is a disconnect between various Administrative Heads or a problem of supervision somewhere.
“You cannot be a Finance Director and pay salaries and withhold taxes of those salaries or cut NASSIT from Staff salaries and it takes one year that money is not received by the institution,” he stated, adding that it will be a miracle for such persons to remain in their positions.
He called on public officers to be little bit more serious with their responsibility while stating that they should hold themselves accountable and hold people accountable.
He noted that most of the issues in the Audit report are leadership issues which are failure of leadership from people in various stages, adding that those people should be held responsible and accountable.
The ACC Boss said the 2021 Audit report presents a grim picture which has shown everything government is doing is vague which he said is an indictment on all of them. He said they must hold those responsible for smearing all of them.
He called on all public officers to do their work for the salaries and emoluments they received.
