The Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority Mrs. Jeneba Bangura has pricked the consciousness of Sierra Leoneans towards tax payment and the fight against corruption.
The soft spoken but effulgent Commissioner General did not limit the payment of taxes and the fight against corruption to only the institutions saddled with those responsibilities, but to all Sierra Leoneans. Mrs Jeneba Bangura said “we are all in this together” adding that the responsibility to pay taxes is on the shoulders of every Sierra Leonean.
The mercurial Commissioner General appealee to the consciousness of the people of this country to their civic duty in paying taxea but extended it to the fight against corruption, which she said we must all desist from and not indulge in. Corruption has been a hydra headed monster in our society and the fight to uproot it for the country to develop is a national fight.
This call by the National Revenue Authority Commissioner General has been applauded across the spectrum with some describing it as long overdue. The paying of taxes should go alongside the fight to eliminate corruption from the society, as corruption can erode all the gains in tax collection.
