The New Direction Government of the President Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio came to power with a defined landmark promise of Infrastructural and economic development such as the Construction of the Lungi Bridge, and a landmark pledge of the Corruption fight and energy Sustainability.
But when he assumed power, his New Direction Establishment stemmed from its determination to clear the austerity and the decks of leakages left by the Opposition All People’s Congress Party (APC). But since in governance, however, these promise missions have been overtaken by default and lack a definition
Yet Six-plus years gone, the ambition is still colliding with reality, and the Bio administration seems incapable of fulfilling the desired promises. The anger over the failed promises Will not abate quickly and will get much worse.
This is a defining fault in the ruling New Direction Establishment and a moral failure in fixing the problems facing our country. Our Promised Policy must be matched by Compassion and patriotism as the spectre of a decline in our energy provision is a seductive narrative.
The collapse of our patriotism has eclipsed our Partisan politics which is weirdly in step with our nostalgic laments of our Infrastructural decline that has cast its long shadows in our country.
Indeed, it’s a political rebranding of our politicians whenever they are in dire need of power, then all frivolous promises Will make the headlines.
President Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio should honour his manifesto promises, and keep in mind that, Pride must be rooted in honesty and his Lungi Bridge promise should be fulfilled and not be a vanity show but history in the making as the paradox of political promise is a loss of confidence and hope by the people which will manifest itself later.
The Lungi Bridge promise is a contested promise that hangs in the minds of the electorates but seems to be a snobbery by the New Direction Government and holds gleeful speculation about President Bio’s promised fulfilment which comes to the question and wonders whether our country will ever hear a Convincing answer for a promise made by our politicians.
President Bio is currently facing huge challenges both within his government and the people of Sierra Leone, and part of such problems is the president’s political travelling, which the people of Sierra Leone are sceptic of, and the sabotage within his government.
The people of Sierra Leone have been constantly facing disappointment from the country’s politicians, especially from the two traditional political parties, the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP ) and the Opposition Grand Old Party of the All People’s Congress Party ( APC ). Both party’s politicians no longer practice the Ideals they preach to be voted for.
They all lack patriotism and visceral and unsparing self-esteem. But mind you, this is not a Partisan affair but nation-building that our politicians are frowning on, instead, they keep doubling down on the damage to our country and channelling justified disunity into a misdirected hate.
Indeed, this is a political turmoil of our times. Are there any credible solutions to our political problems? President Bio should clear his diary of frequent travelling and sort out the betrayal in our energy sector. His promises to the people of Sierra Leone should be a national priority, not a Partisan Cult.
The remaining years of President Bio’s tenure in office should be an act of performance. His manifesto promises should be the axiomatic priority in his last tenure in office. He should be balancing the rampant travelling which I think is the unvarnished truth.
The failure of the New Direction Establishment to articulate and transform its promise visions to the people of Sierra Leone has eroded its democratic credibility making it a better choice for the people of Sierra Leone.
Can President Bio fulfil his promise to the people of Sierra Leone and be regarded as a man of “human dignity” or will he be remembered as the leader of the Old normal? Our national problems need to be solved and they should not be an unfulfilled promise. Indeed this is a really cynical Campaign promise made to the people of Sierra Leone.
The big question now Is whether President Bio is sleepwalking in his promises or Whether his promises are relevant or Irrelevant. It all remains to be seen as the people of Sierra Leone want to see a real solution to the problem they are currently facing.
Can the promised dream of a new Lungi Bridge be a reality? It all remains to be seen if the promise reflected a profound desire for development in Sierra Leone.
!LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE
GOD BLESS US ALL!
