Karene district council chairman, Abdul Kandeh Turay has praised and given hope to the women in his district for undertaking developmental initiatives.
“As Chairman of the District Council, I am committed to ensuring that the voices of women are heard and their rights are protected.
“We must strive for gender equality in all aspects of our community, be it education, employment, or participation in decision-making processes,” the Chairman of the Karene District Council, Abdul Kandeh Turay said while addressing the women of the district during the International Women’s Day celebration in Kamakwie.
He called on the women to use the day not only to celebrate their achievements but to also re-affirm their collective commitments to building a more inclusive and equitable society.
He urged them to work towards a future where every woman and girl can realize their full potentials, and be free from discrimination and prejudices.
Chairman Turay said, collectively, they are honouring the strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit of women who have played pivotal roles in shaping the district and the country.
He said, “from nurturing families to leading businesses, from advocating for equality to driving innovation, women have demonstrated time and their ability to excel in every spheres of life.”
He commended the women for their profound sense of gratitude and admiration for their remarkable contributions to society, families, and the nation.
“As we celebrate international Women’s Day, let us not only recognize the past-struggles and triumphs but also to re-commit ourselves to the ongoing journey towards gender equality and justice for all.”
