Information reaching the wise bird revealed that, the Executive Director of Campaign for Good Governance, Marcella Samba has urged all political parties to implement the thirty percent (30%) quota for women’s representation.
According to the Director, it is mandatory for all political parties in the country to include women in internal elections.
The Director made this statement after the Sierra Leone people’s Party (SLPP) conducted both lower and National Delegates Conference recently.
In spite women representation during the conference was a far cry, she however lauded the SLPP for electing the two women to top positions.
Meanwhile, the Director bemoaned the overall executive composition that it did not meet the 30% requirement outlined in section (42) of the Political Parties Act 2022 as amended.
It was also noted that, political parties have deliberately failed to implement the recommended reforms since 2004 as indicated in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC).
The civil right activist called on political parties to act as a gatekeeper and lead by example to make sure that there is inclusive governance and fortify the democratic progress towards gender equality.
The bird is waiting to see the outcome of the APC lower and National Delegates’ Conference elections to see whether they will do the same.
