Both the Sierra Leone People’s party (SLPP) and the All People’s s Congress (APC) members of parliament have expressed concerns over the latest scourge of Mpox disease in the country.
Expressing the worrisome situation of the Mpox, the female MP from Kailahun District, Wuyata Banardett Songa told the house that as the Mpox is ravaging the country, parents across Sierra Leone are very worried about their children in schools.
According to Hon Songa, parents are worried because there are no measures being put in place to tackle the Mpox disease especially in schools.
The MP spoke on the health challenges which, she said, has been a perineal problem which needed to be tackled with immediate effect.
Hon Wuyata Songa has also spoken about the filth and crowding situations of most hospitals across Sierra Leone.
The opposition Chief Whip, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara spoke on the lack of funds to take care of these many hospitals and PHUs across the country.
The MP also said, there are no mechanisms placed to address the issue of Mpox which is a new threat of disease to citizens and victims hospitals.
Hon Kamara said the Ministry of Health should be asking Finance Ministry for funds to be able to take care of the health of the people of Sierra Leone.
He urged the Minister of Health to ensure a proper implementation of quality health care services for the people of Sierra Leone.
The opposition Chief Whip talked of the dangers posed if the country for failing to act proactively in tackling the menace.
Hon Kamara also called for the ministry to consider the recruitment of those health volunteers who have been working for ages in the community health facilities across Sierra Leone.
He SLPP MP from Kailahun, Hon Quintin Salia urged the Minister of Health to ensure that the ministry of health be able to prioritize the information to the public.
He said sensitization of the Mpox should be swiftly resolved in order to ensure eradication of the virus in the country.
The opposition deputy leader, Hon Aaron Aruna Koroma further stressed on the need to restructure the ambulance system in the country to help on the health care delivery.
