It was a welcome idea for the establishment of Panguma as a new District covering: Penguin Chiefdom, Pejeh West, Pejeh Bongai, Badajuma Yawei, Jawo, Chiefdom, Panguma and Lower Bambara.
But to some many people it doesn’t make any sense.
What has brought up the heated debate is the proximity of Panguma from the rest of the other chiefdom.
This debate has continued for months but all efforts seemed to fall on deaf ears since no actions have been taken by Ministry of Local Government to savage the situation by reversing the decision.
A cross-section of local indigenes from four chiefdoms in: Kailahun Penguia, Bandajuma Yawei, Pejeh West, and Pejeh Bongai told our reporter that Government should have firstly consulted local authorities.
They said looking from the proximity of the four Chiefdoms: Peleh West, Peleh Penguia and Bandajuma.
Yawei Panguma is at a distance from the rest of the four Chiefdoms from Kailahun including Jawo Chiefdom, a new imaging Chiefdom also from Kailahun district. Dilating further these people advanced their arguments that Panguma has only two Chiefdoms which are: Panguma and Lower Bambara.
They expressed their desire to have Bunumbu in Pejeh West to be declared Panguma District.
