The seaside at Guard Street in Freetown is filled with filth that affects animals like pigs.
The caretakers of these pigs don’t build neat hog pens for them to sleep in.
It is a common habit of people in slums areas to leave animals they rear without proper care for them.
These pigs often go on a loose and sometimes swim in waters or streams at their peril.
They would eat all kinds of rubbish including human feaces, instead of providing with their right feed like cassava, potatoes and some imported feeds.
When pigs eat shits, it is bad for the well-being of people who eat their meat.
With such situation, people are at risk of catching diseases like cholera, dysentery and related illness transmitted by these loose pigs.
For many, they believe council authorities have not been enforcing regulations on those rearing these domesticated animals including pigs.
“Even if they talk about it on radio or TV they won’t take action including imposing fines on owners of these stray animals for not taking care of them, like done in other countries to maintain decency in communities.
