The Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran H.E. Sadati Amiri on Friday August 16 met with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone Hon. Ibrahim Tawa Conteh in his Chambers at OAU Drive in Freetown.
The meeting took place as a result of Mr. Conteh’s recent visit to Tehran to attend the 14th presidential inauguration ceremony of I.R. Iran.
He Deputy Speaker was accompanied by other members of parliament including Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray, the representative of Moyamba district.
Hon. Conteh pointed out that the trip to Tehran was a pleasant experience and he expressed gratitude for the hospitality extended to their delegation by the people and the Government of Iran.
He also emphasized that it was an enlightening experience in the sense that it painted a clear picture of the realities of the region, and Iran in particular.
They discussed the role of Sierra Leone as the President of United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Deputy Speaker shed light on the priorities of Sierra Leone in that capacity as Chairman of UNSC and the Ambassador praised the constructive approach and stances that Sierra Leone has adopted so far and expressed hope that this trend would continue.
The two sides then went on to confer on different aspects of bilateral cooperation in detail and discussed ongoing activities with the aim of establishing the agenda and reaching an agreement on the best path forward in order to strengthen bilateral ties, especially as far as the two parliaments are concerned.
Special thanks were expressed to Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray for his constructive role in promoting parliamentary cooperation between the two friendly and sister countries of Iran and Sierra Leone, thus “planting yet another seed of friendship for the prosperity of the two nations.”
