In collaboration with the Ministry of Information and Civic Education with Statistics Sierra Leone has solicited the partnership of the media aimed at effectively and efficiently propagating the activities of Statistics Sierra Leone for the next national census slated for December 2026.
The call was made yesterday during an engagement with senior media practitioners at the Information Ministry’s conference room, Youyi Building at Brookfields in Freetown.
Addressing the meeting, the Minister of Information Chernor Bah made it plainly that media collaboration is needed because they believe it will carry census messages far and wide for everyone not only to understand but to see the necessity to be part of the process and ensure to be counted.
The minister insisted that they want to ensure that this particular census unlike the last one is conducted fairly devoid of any controversy so that quality and credible data will be collected, which is why we want fair and collective representation. He said they have already involved all the political parties and CSOS and are participating well because “we don’t want at the end they begin to say that they were excluded. He added that they have already developed a simple slogan “Leh dem count you,” meaning, for everyone to make sure they are counted. “This is why we need your support to continue to amplify our messages,” he stressed.
In his plea, the Director of communications SSL, Samuel Ansumana also underscores the importance of media alliance; noting that it will undeniably help the process to succeed by helping to continuously disseminate their messages far and wide to avoid controversy at the end. The role of media is very much critical, which is why he said they are seeking its support and promised to have regular engagement with them.
